Three New Apprentices
2024 has seen Bensons take the next step with our commitment to apprenticeships.
Benson's commitment to developing talent through its apprenticeship scheme is core to building a talented and committed workforce for the future, it aligns perfectly with our values of developing a Team that is Dedicated, that Cares and is Proud of what it achieves. It embodies Bensons' belief in investing in the future workforce to build a sustainable and successful business.
2024 has seen Bensons take the next step with our commitment to apprenticeships. In April of this year we were awarded the Next Gen Makers Excellent Employer Kitemark accreditation, achieving their Gold standard. This is awarded to employers who have demonstrated, through a rigorous application and assessment process, that they have achieved a standard of excellence in their apprenticeship scheme.
The impact
Securing this recognition has helped to differentiate Bensons from other engineering and manufacturing employers in the region and has raised our profile as an employer of choice for those seeking to develop a career in this valuable and growing sector.
As a result of this, we have employed three new apprentices on a L3 Engineering Fitter scheme. Having started the year with a plan to employ two, we were a victim of our own success and had more candidates than spaces. Not wanting to miss out, we seized the opportunity to employ Ethan, Ellis and Leevi.

However, apprenticeships are not just about creating opportunities
for people at the start of their career. In common with many businesses,
we have existing talent within the organisation and capability gaps to
fill as the company continues to grow. To address these skills gaps, we
have utilised apprenticeship schemes to invest in the training and
development of existing team members by enrolling them in schemes such
as the L4 Engineering Manufacturing Technician.
The icing on the cake came in July when we were hugely proud when our own Dan Brodie won the Apprentice of the Year at the Leeds Manufacturing Festival awards. This is an excellent example of talent and opportunity aligning to create a success for both the individual and the organisation.
Vision for the future
We see apprenticeships continuing to be a key element of the future for Bensons. As technology and processes continue to evolve, it remains vitally important to identify, foster and develop the talent needed to fully exploit the opportunities created. We see apprenticeship as our route to accessing this talent.

Leeds Manufacturing Festival 2025
On 12th June, Bensons attended the Leeds Manufacturing Festival (LMF) annual awards, this year hosted at Leeds Beckett University, to celebrate the champions of the industry.
The importance of using the right cable
Within a control panel, a cable will either distribute power or allow devices to communicate. The size, colour, and material used all determine how well the cable works.
Employee to Apprentice
A key element of the vision for securing the future of Bensons is recognising performance, and reinvesting in our team members to enable them to grow and develop with the business.
Expanding our Case Studies
