Having met on a ‘Help to Grow’ training course run by Leeds Beckett University, Bensons and EES agreed to collaborate on an initial project, with EES supplying a control panel design and Bensons manufacturing the panel.
Many projects undertaken by EES have demanding timescales, meaning there is a heavy dependency on the timely delivery of the control panels. This is to ensure there is sufficient time for a substantive phase of hardware and software integration, then test, before a finished system can be handed over to the end customer. To enable EES to exploit their hardware, software and system engineering capabilities, they needed a dependable, high-quality and reliable supplier of control panels.
On the first collaboration, the initial panel was delivered on time to our usual level of quality. After this first project – the successful experience of working together led to further projects being commissioned.
As the projects became increasingly complex, it became apparent that whilst the designs created by EES were to a high technical standard, we discovered with our extensive experience, that they were not optimised for manufacture, causing unnecessary difficulties during production.
This was discovered because, In line with our commitment to a culture of Continuous Improvement, we regularly carry out ‘lessons learnt reviews’ at the completion of a project. In the case of EES, this process identified several areas where the design for manufacture of the control panels could be improved.
EES were keen to act on these recommendations and they were incorporated into subsequent designs, significantly simplifying the process of manufacturing the control panels in line with the various project timelines.
Through a process of collaboration on over 10 projects over a period of two year period, EES and Bensons have built a successful working relationship based on collaboration, open and proactive communication and trust.
